Tip #2: Circle Time Music!

July 2, 2008

I implemented 'Circle Time Music' so I could see all of the kids' faces when we worship together. 'Circle Time Music' is simply as it sounds. We all gather in a great big circle, holding hands until we have reached proper formation, letting go of hands when we get ready to sing. I strive to be a part of their worship and truly get down to their level. One of my favorite songs to sing when we worship together is one performed by some kids from Africa in an organization called WATOTO. They sing “Cast Your Burdens” with a little bit of an African twist. During this song we pretend to play an air flute, reach our hands as high as we can, and then lower satin all the way to the ground until we are all laying in a star position…including me. I try to avoid being up on a platform or stage when worshiping. When we make a great big circle, we are one unit…equal in community worship.

'Circle Time Music' was a bit juvenile for the older kids…so I created 'Mosh Pit Worship' where we all squish up (for as long as I can stand it) and sing together in one great big Mosh Pit. Of course I had to explain to the kids what a “Mosh Pit” was and encouraged them not to bump chests and be mindful of their neighbor:)
